NOTICE – The Rippey library board meeting has been postponed until Wednesday, May 23, at 5 pm in the library.
ALUMNI PARTY – Rippey Alumni Party will be Saturday, May 26, at noon in the Rippey United Methodist Church.
LIONS CLUB – The Rippey Lions Club enjoyed a meal prepared and served by Phyllis Bardole and Maralynn Rinker. Two trees were planted by Lions Club members at the Rippey Ballpark, one in memory of Keith Devilbiss and the other for the 100th anniversary of the Lions Club organization. There will be plaques for the trees at a later date.
A picture and an article about the recent donation to the Rippey public library was featured in the May Iowa Lions Club magazine. Summer activities will include a free community picnic for everyone in the area on Saturday, July 7, at Osborn Park. Other summer activities were discussed. The Lions Club will provide the food, drinks and desserts.
Following the business meeting, Rick Liebich provided the program by sharing the video “Riding the Rails”, telling the story of 250,000 teenagers who left home and rode the rails during the Great Depression. The video included memories of some who had ridden the rails as teenagers and young adults and the difficult circumstances they faced as they struggled to survive and search for jobs and food.
The next meeting will be June 7 at 7 pm at Cindy and Mark Devilbiss’ home. Guests are always welcome. Members will bring meat to grill and a dish to share. ~Nancy Hanaman, reporting
DEATH NOTICE -Local family and friends were notified of the death of Kristine (Anderson) Goodwin of White Bear Lake, MN. Kris was the oldest daughter of the late Walt and Nadine Anderson of Rippey.
Kris was raised in Rippey and enjoyed participating in small town activities including church, sports, and music. After graduating from East Greene in 1969, she graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in elementary education and taught second grade in Iowa Falls. After marrying and moving to the Twin Cities, she taught preschool at Kinderland Preschool in North Oaks, MN. She had resided in the Shore-view, MN, and White Bear Township, MN, communities for the past 38 years.
Kristine is survived by her husband Dr. Courtney J. Goodwin; son Curtis J. Goodwin; daughter Kirsten L. Goodwin; and stepdaughter Corley P. (Jesse Hall) Goodwin; sister Cynthia S. (Ronald) Cole; nieces Julie (Lars) Madsen and Megan Cole; nephew Brett Cole; sister-in-law Carma (Gerald) Lindeman; nephews and nieces, Brad, Todd, Lori, Traci.
Funeral services were held May 15 at White Bear Lake United Methodist Church.
Cousins Andrea McFadyen of Ankeny, Brenda Kiner of Rippey, and Lori Minnihan of Scranton, as well as several of Kris’s classmates, attended the funeral services.

Midge Vannatta hosted a recent farewell party for Rachel Sacco of the Rippey senior apartments. Those attending also live at the apartments. Everyone enjoyed reminiscing about the good times during the time Rachel has lived among them. Rachel has moved to Virginia to be near her daughter.
Linda Hampton of Chandler, AZ, enjoyed visiting her mother and brothers this last weekend. The graduation of Kane, son of Alan and Sarah Borgeson, was the special occasion of the weekend. It was a short visit, but a fun-filled time of preparing for a party and visiting with everyone who came.
